Subject: Presentation of Recycled Water Recharge Requirements by the
California Department of Public Health and the Regional Water
Quality Control Board
Recommendation: No recommendation
As part of the Governor’s drought declarations in 2014 was a call for the California
Department of Public Health to finalize, before the end of the fiscal year, the long awaited
regulations governing the use of recycled water for groundwater recharge. On June 12,
2014, California Department of Public Health met the mandate, adopting emergency
Regulations for Groundwater Replenishment Using Recycled Water. The new rules
govern the recharge of groundwater with recycled water via direct injection or spreading
basins.
The purpose of this agenda item is to receive a brief presentation from the Watermaster
Engineer related to the recharge of recycled water.
