Director Memorandum 14-043 Date: May 21, 2014 Prepared By: Joseph Zoba, General Manager Subject: Ratification of Bear Valley Mutual Water Company Stock Rental Commitments for the 2014 Irrigation Season Recommendation: That the Board ratifies the rental of Bear Valley Mutual Water Company stock for the 2014 Irrigation Season to Camp Morning Star, Gerry Garcia, and Larry Jacinto. Due to shortages of local water supplies, there are several customers of Bear Valley Mutual Water Company that need additional shares to meet their anticipated summer demands. While a number of irrigation customers are looking at activating local groundwater wells, other customers do not have access to sufficient groundwater resources. On April 2, 2014, the Board of Directors approved a request from Camp Morning Star to rent 75 of our 588 shares in the Bear Valley Mutual Water Company. At this board meeting, District staff was authorized to work with other customers of Bear Valley Mutual Water Company to facilitate the transfer of the District’s unused shares. For the 2014 irrigation season, the District rented our unused shares of Bear Valley Mutual Water Company to the following users: • Camp Morning Star - 75 shares; • Gerry Garcia - 68 shares; and • Larry Jacinto - 445 shares. There has been a great deal of cooperation between local water agencies during this drought period and the support provided by Yucaipa Valley Water District help to facilitate drought solutions for local property owners.
