Workshop Memorandum No. 18-241 Page 2 of 13

               STATE OF CALIFORNIA BENEFITS:
 Reduces the need for water to be imported from northern California that would normally
be required to meet future water demands.
 Conservation, including efficiency water use and reclamation, is consistent in protecting
the best interest of the State of California.

The Yucaipa Valley Regional Water Supply Renewal Project

The Yucaipa Valley Regional Water Supply Renewal Project is an innovative salinity control
project that will effectively eliminate the buildup of minerals in the Yucaipa Valley that degrade
drinking water supplies. The overall project involves expanded reverse osmosis infrastructure at
the Yucaipa Valley Regional Water Filtration Facility (Salinity Concentrate Reduction and
Minimization “SCRAM” System); an expanded reverse osmosis and treatment infrastructure at
the Wochholz Regional Water Recycling Facility (Salinity and Groundwater Enhancement
“SAGE” Project); and a recharge facility at the Calimesa Lake and Spreading Basins. Coupled
with the District’s aggressive recycled water program, these projects will minimize the amount of
water imported from the fragile ecosystem in northern California and allow for the maximum use
               of high-purity recycled water.
