Workshop Memorandum 19-088

                Date: March 26, 2019

                From: Matthew Porras, Implementation Manager

Subject: Discussion Regarding the Wildwood Canyon Road Sewer Mainline Extension

The Yucaipa Valley Water District operates and maintains a gravity sewer line located south of
Wildwood Canyon Road and west of the Wildwood Creek Basin. On February 18, 2019 District
staff identified asset # WW-PIP-0295, a gravity sewer main line that is adjacent to Yucaipa Creek,
was damaged due to the recent storm water that had washed out the bedding of the sewer main
line, leaving the pipe exposed, severing at a joint and causing a leak. The pipe has been
reconnected and is temporarily suspended and restrained. The bedding of the pipe needs to be
re-established and fortified if the pipe remains in service.

Instead of incurring additional cost in the repairs to the surrounding creek bedding and nearby
rock structure, District staff is considering alternatives. One alternative is to install a new 10”
diameter segment of sewer mainline, approximately 1,300 linear feet long, in Wildwood Canyon
Road to convey the sewer flows from the upstream development. This installation will eliminate
the need to make the repairs to the creek bedding and rock structure as the damaged segment
of pipe will be removed from service and abandoned.
